Where it makes sense for their business model, staff back in the warehouse are using the on-tap information from Vendmanager to allocate and prepare stock in advance of the vans setting out.

Rarely so for progressing new prospects - we focus on that when we are exhibiting ourselves or through other targeted means. The key benefits (as well as “borrowing” successful ideas from here or abroad that will be of use to our own clients) are instead in improving my understanding of our sector.

It was indeed “refreshing” being interviewed by Martin White, News Editor of “Refreshment” magazine, the publication (print/online), whose target audience both includes vending and OCS ... and extends beyond. This meant that even when we were on familiar territory, the questions were angled afresh - with a different perspective. It encouraged me to think anew - and I enjoyed that challenge.

We now have an enormous schematic graphic on the back of our new exhibition stand, as first displayed at Vendex Midlands this year. We actually have five different graphics (for use in various media - usually smaller!), and the original briefing for the graphic artist was in fact …. a spreadsheet (we are software engineers, remember.) The inspiration behind that spreadsheet and the final designs goes right to the heart of how we are striving to improve vending for clients - every day.

Recently we contacted all our clients in advance to explain that our customer help-desk would be on reduced staff on Tuesday 5 June. This was not easy. We have never done it before - we are extremely proud of the responsive service we provide on tap 06.00 AM to 17.30 PM workdays. So what could have been so important for us to do this now? And yes, we will be doing it again (although all our staff were on hand throughout to respond to any emergencies if needed).

AVS comprises 29 member companies, representing key vending operators across the UK, and for the awards each is allocated one vote per category in a blind ballot.

Robin brings a wealth of expertise in the vending sector, with over 18 years industry experience, starting initially with Nestlé Vending as National Sales Director, and most recently at LTT Vending as Sales Director.

Vending International magazine asked Simon Black, our Managing Director what lies ahead for our sector, with data growing ever more key to success. Companies that have engaged with data and what it shows have been more successful rather than fighting back against it. It takes a change in mindset to break with the ways of the past. For example, to believe that a machine does not need a visit right now, even when that goes against the routine schedules of the past.

Here's what he had to say, "In 2009 a project to introduce contactless payment really caught my eye. It was in Istanbul, where the Bosphorus separates Europe and Asia. Back then, passengers on the ferry were already using contactless to pay directly at the gate — faster and easier than before. It continues to be a huge success today.
